About ICSB

Islington Community Safety Board

The Islington Community Safety Board (ICSB) key purpose is to help make Islington a safer Borough, the organization undertakes the police engagement and consultation with the residents, business people and visitors of Islington on behalf of the Metropolitan Police Authority.

The membership of the Islington Community Safety Board (ICSB) comprises of representatives drawn from the local community, including council officers, police officers, professionals and practitioners in the community safety field. The ICSB is owned by the community. Legally, Community Safety Boards are not an instrument of the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA), rather, a community-led initiative funded by the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA).

Any member of the local community can raise their concerns through the Islington Community Safety Board. Public meetings are arranged every two months, where any member of the public can attend and ask questions to the member bodies. Please feel free to attend any of the public meetings or if you have any issues that you would like to address outside of the meetings please contact the ICSB via email or fill a request form online or telephone on the number listed in the contact section. You can find out about the details of future meetings through the link 'News and Events' above. Minutes of the previous meetings can be found by following the link to the 'Meetings Update' page.

Aim

  • To support local community engagement to help secure effective, citizen focussed, fair, accountable and responsive policing and council community safety activity for Islington's communities.
  • To provide a forum in which local people can engage Islington Police, Islington Council, the Metropolitan Police Authority and each other in constructive discussion and debate about policing, crime and community safety issues in Islington.
  • To enable people in Islington to understand, inform, influence, support or challenge policing and community safety policies that affect them.
  • To provide a forum for information flow in all directions between Islington's police, local authority, partnerships and the local community.
  • To be an inclusive body which promotes equal opportunities and diversity treats all people with respect, will not compromise its impartiality, and will! not tolerate discrimination in any form.

Function

  • The CSB will play an exclusively borough-wide, strategic and proactive role.
  • This differentiates it from consultative work with a localised, reactive, tactical or operational focus occurring at the borough level through Independent Advisory Groups (lAGs), and at the ward level through Safer Neighbourhoods (SN).
  • The CSB should not get involved in individual grievances and casework, for which there are more appropriate fora.
  • CSB meetings will be open to public and Press. Provision shall be made at each meeting to enable any person attending to address or ask questions of the Board upon any issue identifiable within these terms of reference.
  • Meetings of the CSB are to be published in advance by the MPA, local authority, local police and MPs.
